14 Nov 2008 Dinner Together with my OB Project Team

Yesterday, I had potluck dinner with my Organizational Behaviour Group Project teammates. There were five of us in a group, consiting of 5 different countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Kyrgistan, USA and Japan.

I cooked Rendang Chicken ala Indonesia. Finally, I used the spices that I brought from Singapore. We also had gyoza, sashimi, mushroom soups, Fried Vietnamese Spring Rolls ("Nem" in Vietnamese), and various fruit and drinks.

Nice and delicious!

Japanese Persimmon

I like this fruit very much. It is very sweet and cheap here. 6 pcs for 190 yen. The flesh is similar to kiwi fruit.

About persimmon
Autumn is persimmon time in Japan. The shibugaki is an astringent persimmon that can be enjoyed only when it is very ripe, or has been blet. Persimmons are called ‘kaki’ in Japanese.

There are numerous varieties that come in two very distinct categories; either astringent or ‘regular’.

Fuyugaki - The regular persimmon, or fuyugaki is similar in shape to a conventional tomato and is eaten like an apple; peeled and sliced into wedges. This is the ‘garden variety’, entry level persimmon.

Shibugaki - The astringent shibugaki is very astringent. A shibugaki that is not over-ripe cannot be eaten, the mouth revolts in immediate protest and extreme pucker, by instinct. Ripening breaks down the culprit tannins.

Okutadami Lake Trip

Today, I went to Okutadami Lake/ Dam. This trip is orginally organized for E-Biz students. Since there are some extra seats, I registered myself. I consider this as my birthday gift. ^_^... (Today aka 9 Nov is actually my birthday).

About the Lake Okutadami
The Lake Okutadami is an artificial lake in the prefectural boundary in Fukushima Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture.

It is built for the purpose of construction of hydraulic power generation. The reflection of the mountains on the surface of the lake is beautiful. Excursion ships in lake Okutadami, excursion ships to Ginzandaira or regular ships to Ozeguchi are available. By using the ship from here makes day trip to Oze possible.

This dam has the largest water storage capacity in Japan. The area around the dam, the largest man-made lake in the Orient, is nature's playground, pleasing visitors with residual snow, fresh verdure and crimson foliage in their respective seasons, as well as hiking and fishing.
